The Murray Foundation The Master Classes at Murray Training Park on Saturday 13th June 2009 organised in conjunction with the SPEEAD Project and the PORT-ER Charity gave the participants the opportunity to:
- improve their movement/balance/agility in the company of other amputees
- try out a selection of sporting activities that they may or may not have tried before
- take part in practical exercises aimed at starting/improving their running
- collect information and advice from a variety of health professionals and sports experts
The day catered for new and experienced exercisers and brought together a variety of amputees of all ages and abilities along with health care professionals working in the field of prosthetics. Skills previously learned were developed and new ones introduced, as participants tried out a range of sports some familiar and some for the first time. With sports massage available to ease exercised muscles, prosthetists advising on how the hardware can help and an information stand for other sports that could not be accommodated the event was complete.
