Changes at the Murray Foundation

In February of this year the decision was made to close the Murray Foundation office at Ibrox . The Foundation has had a “home” at Ibrox since we began over 12 years ago and our administrator – Sandra Fraser – had been with us almost all of that time.

Many of you will have come in contact with Sandra over the years and I am sure you would join me in thanking her for all her hard work and dedication and wish her all the best for the future. I know that she enjoyed working with the Foundation immensely and made a lot of good friends during her time with us.

To reassure you all – both patients and professionals - the main activities of the Murray Foundation i.e. providing information, support and counselling to all those affected by limb loss or absence in Scotland – will not be affected by the office closure. The advocacy service will also continue to be provided. The only thing that has changed is the office contact number and the main postal address.

They are now as follows

Murray Foundation Office Number: - 01691 680635

Postal address: -

The Murray Foundation

9 Charlotte Square

EDINBURGH

EH4

As with many other organisations we are acutely aware that we have to keep a tight rein on our costs in these difficult financial times and as a result we have (for the first time in 10 years!) decide to allow adverts within the Foundations magazine. We will at all times ensure that the adverts are appropriate to our readership and hope that you find them useful and informative.

Financial constraints have also resulted in a number of projects being put on hold – namely the Prosthetic Information for Patients (PIP) project and also the production of a DVD focused on those patients who, for various reasons, are not limb fitted, but who go on to lead an independent life using a wheelchair. We are looking at ways in which these projects could be funded externally as we feel that they would be of benefit to the amputee population as a whole.

It terms of events – the one event running this year is in conjunction with SPEEAD and also PORT-ER is similar to the very successful running day that we held in 2007. There is more about this event elsewhere but I would encourage you all – not just the athletically inclined – to consider coming along to Murray Park on the 13th June. I feel sure that the sun will shine!

It has been a difficult few months for us all, but the recent changes have also been a good opportunity for the Foundation to review our various activities and our ways of working and so we are looking to the future with optimism and enthusiasm to ensure that the Murray Foundation will continue for many years to come.
